Peterborough drug dealer jailed after being caught hiding in wardrobe
26 year old Mehdi Daif has been sentenced to more than four years in prison after police discovered drugs and weapons during a raid at a flat in Peterborough
A man has been sentenced to more than four-and-a-half years in prison after being found hiding in a wardrobe during a police raid in Peterborough.
On 24 March 2021, officers from the Neighbourhood Support Team executed a warrant at a flat in Salaam Court, Millfield. As officers prepared to enter, a 23-year-old man attempted to escape through the back door but retreated to a bedroom upon spotting police. During the incident, another man, 26-year-old Mehdi Daif, emerged from a wardrobe.
A search of the premises revealed weapons, including a machete and a police-style baton, in the living room. Additionally, a package containing approximately £2,590 worth of cocaine and heroin was discovered, along with £590 in cash found in Daif's possession.
Daif was charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine and heroin. Although he denied the charges, he was found guilty after a trial at Peterborough Crown Court on 17 October. He was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison.
The 23-year-old man and two women present in the flat at the time were also arrested, but no further action has been taken against them.
Detective Constable Kevin Poole, who led the investigation, stated, "There is no place for drug dealing in our community – not only does it attract anti-social behaviour, but sometimes also extreme levels of violence and use of weapons. I would encourage the public to help us tackle these issues by passing on information."
Anyone with information related to drug activity is urged to report it to police via the force’s dedicated drugs information webpage.
