Peterborough councillor Rylan Ray charged with child sex offences

The suspended councillor faces 26 charges and Crown Court appearance in January

Peterborough City Councillor Rylan Ray has been charged with 26 offences, including several relating to sexual activity with a child.

The 25-year-old councillor, who represents the ward of Eye, Thorney and Newborough, appeared at Luton Magistrates yesterday, 27th November 2025 in connection with the charges.

No pleas were entered during the hearing, and the case has been sent to Cambridge Crown Court for trial.

Plea hearing in January

Rylan Ray is scheduled to appear at Crown Court on 5th January 2026, where a plea and trial preparation hearing will take place.

The councillor has been suspended by the local Conservative party following the allegations.

Rylan Ray has served as councillor for his ward since February 2022 and was previously active in several committees, including the Prevention, Independence and Resilience Scrutiny Committee and the Sustainable Future City Council Scrutiny Committee.
