Peterborough boat firm welcomes mini heatwave as temperatures soar
Temperatures are likely to hit around 30 degrees in parts of the country
People in Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Stamford and Rutland are set to bask in sweltering heat this week with temperatures on course to reach around 30 degrees.
The UK Health Security Agency has issued an amber heat health warning until Sunday for the region.
However, outdoor businesses are perhaps welcoming the news after mixed weather throughout the summer.
Byron Cripps is the owner of Peterborough Boat Hire Limited:
“I love my job, but it comes with its challenges; the weather isn’t always in your favour but thankfully we’ve got some nice weather and we’re doing well,” he said.
“We’ve had a few special needs schools come out and enjoy the electric boats, so it’s nice to see all the happy faces enjoying their time on the water.
“We probably will have later summers, so it is probably something to adapt to and make sure everything’s running right for later in the summer or lengthen the season for a bit longer.”
The latest heat health warning, which was issued as a yellow alert, had been upgraded to amber for 8 of England’s 9 regions.
This means people of all ages could be affected and that the NHS is put at risk.
"Like Morecambe and Wise said, 'you bring me sunshine'"
And with temperatures expected to rise further into the week, we spoke to people in Peterborough if they’re going to make the most of the hot weather.
“I like it warm but not too hot, unless you’re on holiday and can keep getting in the swimming pool!” one person said.
“When you smile the world smiles with you, like Morecambe and Wise said, ‘you bring me sunshine’; I love it,” said one woman.
“I don’t like the hot weather; the climate is definitely changing, so it’s not good,” another person said.
Temperatures are planned to return to average levels for September next week.
