A man has been sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing a boy over a period of five years more than four decades ago.

Colin Dean, 58, of Orchard Road, Histon, was found guilty by a jury at Cambridge Crown Court of four counts of indecent assault on a boy under 14 and four counts of inciting a boy under 14 to commit an act of gross indecency. The offences occurred between 1980 and 1985 in the Cambridgeshire area, but Dean’s actions only came to light in July 2021.

Detective Sergeant Mark Williamson said: “Dean took advantage of the child to sexually abuse him, so it’s good news he’s been jailed. I would like to thank the victim for his bravery in coming forward and the strength he has shown throughout the investigation and subsequent court case."

Dean was sentenced on Friday, 16 August.

DS Williamson added, "Dean’s conviction is testament to the victim’s courage.”
