MP describes fatal fire in Cambridge started by e-bike explosion as a 'tragic incident'
We've been speaking to the Roads Minister as part of our investigation into e-bikes
The Roads Minister Richard Holden has described the death of a woman and two children in a fire in Cambridge started by an e-bike battery exploding as a "tragic incident".
We've been speaking to Richard Holden following our exclusive interview with the sole survivor of the fire in June, Scott Peden, earlier this week.
The MP says the government is taking action to tackle the counterfeit market.
He added: "It's such a tragic incident and the Office of Product Safety and Standards is working very closely with the fire brigades to ensure product safety issues are properly assessed and action is taken to protect consumers right across the country.
"It's absolutely right that tragic incidents like this are looked at properly and proper investigations happen at the earliest incident and that we get the Office for Product Safety Standards onto it straight away.
"We're working very closely with the Warwick Manufacturing Group, which is part of Warwick University, looking into a lot of the innovations in this space and ensuring that appropriate policy, regulations and enforcements come forward as part of it.
"These are new things which are just emerging onto the market and getting the regulations right is absolutely vitally important because we don't want to see tragic incidents happening like this again in the future."
