Six men have been found in the back of a lorry in Cambridgeshire

Cambridgeshire Police say one of the men called 999 to say they "couldn't breathe" in the refrigerated lorry - before the call dropped out.

However the force managed to track the location of the call, and caught up with it on the A142 between Ely and Soham on Tuesday.

The men had travelled from France earlier that morning - they were checked over by ambulance crews before being passed over to the UK Border Agency for investigation.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “We are relentless in our pursuit of people-smuggling gangs and stand ready to respond to all methods, including lorries and other clandestine routes."

“Our extensive security measures include robust, specialist measures from Border Force and Immigration Enforcement who work closely with our international partners.

"We have also introduced tougher legislation and continue to work with our French counterparts to disrupt vile people-smuggling gangs.”
