Mark Bonner has signed a new long-term contract as Head Coach at Cambridge United.

Under Mark Bonner’s management, the U’s have enjoyed a promotion into League One, a highest league finish since 1993/94 and a dramatic survival bid last season after a remarkable end to the league campaign.

He said: “I am so pleased to have signed a new long-term contract with this great club.

“Everyone knows how much Cambridge United means to me and I am really excited by our potential.

“Our mindset is to keep moving forwards and making progress, and whilst our progress in recent years has been fairly rapid, we all believe that much more can lie ahead for us.

Mark Bonner’s Cambridge United journey began at the Club’s Football in the Community scheme in 2002, before moving onto the Centre of Excellence in 2004.

After six years away with Southend United’s Academy, he returned to the U’s in 2011 as U18s Head Coach, prior to being promoted to Academy Manager in 2013.

After seven years within the youth-set up, he was appointed Assistant Head Coach of the First Team in 2018 and after two interim spells in-charge, was named Head Coach on a permanent basis in 2020.

Paul Barry, Majority Owner, said, “We are all very pleased that Mark has signed this new contract. He is very talented coach and a fantastic leader of this football club - someone who has been a very important part of our recent past and has a big role to play in our future.

“We won’t be giving any further details but this should be seen as further evidence of our shared ambition and desire at every level of the Club to push forward further together.”
