Hundreds of people are due to visit March's Christmas Market today, where they could be in for a 'wonky' surprise.

The wonky Christmas tree in March Market Place has been grabbing the headlines here and abroad for its unique position.

The feature is expected to get more attention this weekend as the annual market, organised by Fenland District Council, takes place in the town centre.

Sarah Lemmon is the clerk to March Town Council:

"We've had calls to have a wonky Christmas tree every year and I'm suspecting there might be some dedicated wonky tree merchandise on sale as well," she said.

"I think we've set a trend and the times in which we live, we need to celebrate our quirks and imperfections; I think our story has quite a happy ending.

"I think it will increase the draw of the market, which will be lovely; the town needs and deserves a little boost and I think this is a perfect way of doing it."

The March Christmas Lights committee ordered the tree nearly one year ago and that the trunk of the tree was already bent when put into place, according to reports.

More than 150 stalls ranging from crafts to Christmas gifts will be on display at the market from 10am to 3pm on High Street, Market Place, around March Library and City Road car park, as well as live entertainment.
