A man's been jailed after stealing an estimated £450 worth of alcohol and tobacco from a shop in Peterborough.

Liam Tristram, 35, of London Road in Yaxley was found guilty of robbing the store on St Johns Street on 30 June 2023.

Tristram faked an injury during the robbery by walking with a crutch.

The 35-year-old later used the same crutch to attack a shop worker, who defended herself by hitting him with her shoe.

Tristram also stole a bottle of coke, but was unsuccessful in trying to take the store's till.

He was arrested on City Road shortly after the robbery.

Tristram was sentenced to six years in jail at Peterborough Crown Court on Thursday.

DC Pete Wise said:

“We take retail crime and attacks like this on shopworkers very seriously.

“I’d like to commend the victim for her bravery in defending herself against Tristram during this traumatic incident. I’m pleased he was identified and has now faced justice.”
