Man who died in Cambridge named by police, as murder suspect appears in court

A man who died following an incident in Cambridge on Tuesday, 17 September, has been identified by police.

Neil Lakhani, 38, of Histon Road, Cambridge, passed away at a property on Histon Road after emergency services were called at 11:39 am to reports of violence.

Despite efforts by paramedics, Mr Lakhani was pronounced dead at 12:15 pm.

A post-mortem examination carried out at Addenbrooke’s Hospital on 19 September concluded that the cause of death was compression of the neck. However, further forensic testing is pending.

Jonathon Austin, 23, also of Histon Road, has been charged with murder.

He appeared at Cambridge Crown Court today, 20 September, and is scheduled to attend a plea and trial preparation hearing at Peterborough Crown Court on 21 October.
