People in Cambridgeshire are calling for more awareness on the dangers that knife crime can pose.

It comes after a man died in Cambridge after he was reportedly stabbed at Carlton Way in the Arbury area on Sunday morning.

Three men aged 19, 20 and 23 have been arrested and remain in custody.

"It can be a deterrent"

We've been speaking to people in the city on what message the fatality sends to local communities:

"It sends a message that knives are dangerous and shouldn't be carried around," one man said.

A woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It brings it home when it's on your doorstep,"

Howard lives in the area where the reported stabbing took place - he believes what's happened in Arbury can send a message "It could be a deterrent for many to realise just how serious it can be."

Stab wound device aims to make a difference

Joseph Bentley, from Cambridgeshire, has created a React (Rapid Emergency Actuating Tamponade) device which aims to stem bleeding caused by stab wounds.

The device inflates a silicone balloon into wounds in order to allow these to be treated before medical help arrives.

Joseph, whose friends were victims of knife-related crimes, said sez progress can be made...

"I'm driven by the experience of my friends and I think it's something that touches everyone; that's why I think it's important that people focus on the problems that matter to them," he said.

"We think it can be applied in under 30 seconds, and stopping that bleeding pretty much instantly which is a bit of a game-changer, but we've got a long way to go in terms of making sure that devices like these do more good than harm.

"Knife crime in general is a huge problem; the message I want to deliver is that no matter how big the challenge is, you can use your skills to try and have a positive impact."
