Striker Elias Kachunga signs for Cambridge United
He's the U's 6th summer signing
Cambridge United have signed forward Elias Kachunga on a one-year contract following his release by Bolton.
The 31-year-old is the sixth summer signing by the U's.
Kachunga began his career in his native Germany, coming through at Borussia Mönchengladbach, before playing for SC Paderborn and FC Ingolstadt 04.
In 2016, he made the move to England to join Huddersfield on loan, where he scored 13 goals to help fire the Terriers to promotion to the Premier League.
He made the switch a permanent one the following season and enjoyed a fruitful three seasons for the club. After signing for Sheffield Wednesday for one season, Kachunga joined the most recent of his previous Clubs, Bolton Wanderers, where he lifted the EFL Trophy, scoring the third goal in the 4-0 final over Plymouth Argyle.
He now joins the U’s ahead with less than a week to go until the 2023/24 season.
Kachunga said, “I am really excited to be here. I had good talks with the gaffer, he explained what he wants to do moving forward with the Club and I was really interested in this project.
“I just had the feeling it is the right place to be right now. I am feeling good, the season is almost here and I am just excited to get started and get back on the pitch.”
Mark Bonner said. “I am delighted to welcome Elias to the Club. He is a player of excellent pedigree who has played a lot of football at a higher level.
“Last season he was part of a strong Bolton Wanderers team and played 50 games in all competitions. He will complement our existing options in the attacking area of the pitch and can play anywhere across the front line.
“We have received nothing but positive character references in our work to sign Elias and once we get him up to speed, I have no doubt he will play a big role in helping us achieve our objectives this season.”
