Judge tells Peterborough drug dealer he 'wasn't very good at it'
Entison Dimitri, who's 35 has been told that it was naïve of him to try selling cocaine in full view of CCTV camera's outside the front door of a busy casino
A Peterborough drug dealer has been told by a judge that he "wasn’t very good at" drug dealing, after being caught on CCTV outside a local casino.
Entison Dimitri, 35, was seen on camera handing out class A drugs at the entrance of Merkur Slots on Lincoln Road, Millfield, in the early hours of 22 February 2022. CCTV operators observed Dimitri returning to a nearby Volkswagen Polo and alerted police to the suspected drug activity.
When police detained and searched Dimitri, they found wraps of cocaine and crack cocaine in a pouch hidden in his trousers, as well as additional drugs in the car, with a total value of £5,000. A search of his home on Lincoln Road revealed more drugs, bringing the total value seized to more than £10,000.
During sentencing at Cambridge Crown Court, the judge told Dimitri, “Having watched the CCTV, you were somewhat naïve, given the fact that you were dealing drugs in full view of the CCTV. It was just a question of time before you were caught because you were not very good at it.”
The judge also expressed concern over Dimitri’s personal circumstances, stating, “It is concerning that the birth of your child threw you into drug dealing. You also developed a gambling addiction and sold drugs to fund that addiction.”
Dimitri admitted to possession with intent to supply cocaine, crack cocaine, and heroin. He was handed a two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work. He must also complete a 25-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and observe a curfew from 9:30pm to 6am for the next four months.
Sergeant Sarah Phillips of the Eastern Peterborough Neighbourhood Policing Team commented: "Tackling drug dealing and associated crime in this area of the city is a priority for my team, as it was highlighted as a concern by the local community."
She added that the operation is part of 'Alliance,' a partnership aimed at regenerating the Millfield area and reducing organised crime to improve safety for residents and businesses.
