A 20-year-old language student in Cambridge likely died from a single stab wound, a coroner has said.
Mohammed Algasim was on a 10-week placement at the EF International Language Campuses when he was fatally attacked in Mill Park on the night of August 1.
Mr Algasim was pronounced dead just after midnight on August 2.
At a short inquest today (Thursday), area coroner Elizabeth Gray gave a provisional cause of death as a stab to the neck after a post-mortem examination was carried out.
Ms Gray adjourned a full inquest until a later date.
Chas Corrigan, 21, of Holbrook Road, Cambridge, has been charged with murder and is due to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on September 8, with a provisional trial date set for February 9 next year.
Peter Corrigan, 50 of Vinter Terrace, Cambridge has been charged with assisting an offender in Mr Algasim's murder and remanded to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on September 11.
Cambridgeshire Police said it is believed Mr Algasim was "stabbed in an unprovoked attack".
In a tribute to Mr Algasim, his family said he was "a young man brimming with enthusiasm, chivalry and courage.
"He was a dutiful son, a loving brother, and the leader of the family in spirit, not in appearance.
"Over time, he became the family's charisma, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy in every gathering."
