Landowners, developers, and other individuals will be asked to suggest areas of land that they think could be developed in Huntingdonshire.

A call for sites is due to be launched by Huntingdonshire District Council as it begins work on creating its new local plan to guide future development in the area.

The district council is not only looking for land suggestions for new housing, but also for suggestions of land that could be used to create new jobs, as well as green infrastructure, flood mitigation, and community uses.

Officers told a meeting of the cabinet that the call for sites will give communities the chance to be part of the process of shaping what their areas will look like in the future, not just developers.

“To meet national guidance for residential and employment uses, such sites should be capable of delivering five or more dwellings or for economic development purposes be of at least 0.25 hectares (or capable of delivering at least 500 square metres of floor space).

People will have 10 weeks to make the land suggestions, which will then all be assessed by officers at the district council.

The new local plan is predicted to take around eight years to complete. People in the district will have opportunities throughout the development process of the plan to have their say on the proposals.
