Hospital trust apologises after death of Godmanchester father-to-be
31-year-old Adam Hurst died at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in December 2018
A hospital trust has offered its “sympathies and condolences” after their “failings” lead to death of a man from Godmanchester.
31-year-old Adam Hurst died at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in December 2018.
He was rushed into A&E by his pregnant wife, where it’s been reported he had to wait three hours for a CT scan.
After this it was found he had a rare and complicated hernia, and fluid in his abdomen.
He died while being prepared for surgery, reportedly after going into cardiac arrest.
Chief Nurse for the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, Joanne Bennis, extended her sympathies to the Hurst family, “we failed Adam and his family, and for that we are truly sorry."
“Our staff strive to provide high quality care at all times, and this was not the case in this instance.”
Since Adam’s death, a charity has since been set up in his memory by his family and friends, who described the event as ‘a nightmare we were never to wake up from’.
Adam’s Rose charity was named after Adam’s daughter, who was born 2 months after he died.
The charity aims to help those suffering through grief of their own, and works closely with the NHS.
