A man from the Hertsmere area who doused his girlfriend in bleach and pushed her down the stairs at the YMCA in Cambridge has been sentenced.

20-year-old Oliver Sheaf attacked his girlfriend after an argument on the evening of January 30th.

He threw a dustpan at her, punching and kicking her. Bleach was then poured onto the victim's clothes and when she tried to scream, Sheaf covered her mouth to muffle them.

As the fight at the YMCA reached the stairwell, Sheaf pushed his victim down a flight, where she was then found by a member of staff.

Police found Sheaf at the train station in the city and was arrested.

He pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis and ABH on December 4th at Peterborough Crown Court.

Sheaf, of no fixed address in Hertfordshire, was sentenced to one year at a young offenders' institution.

The victim suffered cuts, bruises and lumps to her head.

PC David Tyler, who investigated, said: “Sheaf showed no remorse while watching the CCTV footage of him attacking the victim.

“Our officers are determined to hold every perpetrator of domestic abuse to account. If you are a victim or know someone who is, or has been, affected by domestic abuse, please get in touch.”
