Essex headteacher pays tribute to student who died swimming in Cambridge lakes

Mark Hall Academy say their staff are morning the loss of 16-year-old student Dishone Lloyd, who tragically drowned in Burnside Lakes, Cherry Hinton

The headteacher of a school in Essex, is paying tribute to 16-year-old Dishone Lloyd, who died after encountering difficulties while swimming in Burnside Lakes, Cherry Hinton, near Cambridge.

Headteacher at Mark Hall Academy, Matt Carter expressed deep sorrow over Dishone's death after he recently completed his secondary education.

He described Dishone as a cherished member of the school community. "Dishone was not just a student at Mark Hall; he was a cherished member of our family and community. He brought positivity and warmth to those who knew him, and his presence was felt throughout our Academy."

Mr Carter acknowledged the impact of the tragedy on the school, emphasising the importance of unity and support during this difficult time. "Dishone had just successfully completed his secondary education and had a bright future ahead of him. The suddenness of this tragic loss is a stark reminder of just how precious and fragile life can be."

In response to the incident, Mark Hall Academy has arranged counselling services for students and staff. "We are arranging counselling services at the school for any student or staff member who needs someone to talk to. This support will be available on Thursday 22nd August for year 11 pupils when collecting their exam results. The leadership team will support the students throughout the morning," Mr Carter stated.

The headteacher also announced plans to honour Dishone's memory. "Dishone was a special pupil at Mark Hall Academy and his memory will act as a beacon and guiding light for us moving ahead; he will never be forgotten. With his family's support and guidance, we will organise a memorial where we can celebrate his life, share memories, and his achievements."

Mr Carter concluded by expressing solidarity with Dishone’s family. "Please know that we are here for the school community and that we will face this tragedy together. During this profound loss, let us remember Dishone for the light he brought into our lives, and let us support each other, particularly his loving family, as they work through this painful time."
