A Cambridgeshire amateur baker has made a model of Ely Cathedral...in gingerbread!

2\3 year old Owen Angier from Littleport said he wanted to challenge his baking abilities by recreating this local landmark.

It took him a day to plan, bake and construct the replica of the cathedral. He said he wanted to 'pay homage' to some key features of the building. He mentioned the Octagon in particular, which is a central part of the cathedral.

On his Instagram page, Owen said: "Ely Cathedral, nicknamed “the ship of the fens”, is a magnificent architectural beauty that I am so fortunate to have on my doorstep. This year I truly wanted to challenge my baking abilities, and what better way to tackle this marvel of a building… in gingerbread form!"

"The cathedral itself has so many astounding features, and while I would have loved to have captured each of them, it was definitely necessary to take some artistic liberties in this format. I hope to have captured even just a smidge of the building’s splendour in my creation!"
