Garry Monk leaves Cambridge United head coach role
The U's sit bottom of Sky Bet League One
Cambridge United head coach Garry Monk has left the club.
Monk - who was appointed in March - leaves the U's sitting bottom of League One and eight points from safety following Saturday's 1-0 home defeat to Exeter City.
The former Birmingham City and Sheffield Wednesday boss saw United pick up just one point in their opening nine league games before a three-game winning run in October.
But since then, they've picked up two league victories.
"We would like to thank Garry for his hard work and commitment to Cambridge United over the last 12 months," Paul Barry, the club's majority owner, said in a statement.
"He really bought into the Club during his time with us and we are all very disappointed that it has not worked out in the way we would all have hoped.
"In the end, the table does not lie and it is the right moment to make a change as we conclude the first part of our football review."
Barry added: "There are 15 games of this season remaining, and we must continue to fight together to preserve our League One status over the coming weeks."
