The family of a man who died after a crash near Whittlesey have paid tribute to him while police enquiries continue.

The 21-year-old died after a silver BMW X5 left the A605 Wisbech Road, outside Coates, and went into a ditch at about 8.45am on Saturday 13 December.

He has been named as Joshua Thomas Hampson-Crofts, from March, who was a back seat passenger in the car.

In a tribute, his family said: “He loved his tractors, football, trucks and Black Cat Roundabout roadworks. He will be missed as a son, stepson, loving brother, brother-in-law, uncle and a grandson.”

They added: “Joshua was such a fighter, who achieved the impossible against so many medical odds. He was an amazing, smiling, cheeky and happy person, who gave happiness to those around him. Joshy will always be missed.”

Joshua was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 53-year-old man, and a 50-year-old woman, both from March, were taken to Peterborough City Hospital with serious injuries. Police say no other vehicles were involved.

Officers say investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

Sergeant Mark Atkins, from the Road Policing Unit, said: “I would urge anyone who saw or has dashcam footage of the BMW before the collision to get in touch.”
