Driving under influence of NOS balloons a "concern", police in Peterborough say
Next month Cambridgeshire Police are cracking down on drink and drug drivers
Police in Peterborough are asking for help from the public identifying drivers who may be under the influence of NOS balloons.
NOS, or laughing gas, being used as a recreational drug has been on the rise in recent years, according to Cambridgeshire Police's Casualty Reduction Officer, Nick Southern, who says it can pose a dangerous risk to health.
He wants members of the public to phone 999 if they see anyone they suspect could be under the influence of drink, drugs or NOS whilst driving, as part of a campaign cracking down on the issue next month.
"NOS can stay in your system for a few hours. It is dangerous. Being under the influence can make you thirty times more likely to be involved in a collision. It's a concern.
'Nationally, we've definitely seen an increase in the use of NOS as a recreational drug. If you witness anything like that, if you see anyone inhaling what looks like a balloon before or whilst driving, call the police.'
