A drink driver who tried to hide from police officers underneath a car has been banned from driving.

26 year old Junaid Akhtar was spotted driving at speed by officers on patrol in Eastfield, Peterborough, at about 2.30am on 5 September.

Officers signalled for Akhtar to pull over, but he led them on a pursuit which ended in Ward Close, Eastfield.

Akhtar was found lying on the ground next to his vehicle and partially underneath a parked car, trying to hide.

Akhtar, of Portland Avenue, Peterborough, failed a roadside breath test and at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (22 April) was banned from driving for six months and handed a £276 fine.

PC Mayson said: “Akhtar was seen driving erratically and at speed, which is dangerous by itself, without being almost double the legal drink drive limit.

“He put other road users in danger and is very lucky he didn’t cause a collision.”
