The driver, a 42-year-old woman, from Burwell, a man and a six-year-old child, also in the BMW, suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the Renault Scenic, a 63-year-old man from Cambridge, was also taken to Addenbrooke’s with serious injuries, as was a passenger, another 63-year-old man from Cambridge.
The driver of the Peugeot van, a 76-year-old man from Sutton, and a passenger, both suffered minor injuries.
Sergeant Steph Corletto, from the road policing unit, said: “This was a nasty collision which has left three people seriously injured.
“The A142 by Ben’s Yard was very busy at the time of the crash so I am appealing for anyone who saw what happened or has dashcam footage of it to come forward.”
