Delays are seeing it take around two months to re-let empty council homes in Cambridge.

Cambridge City Council set itself a target to let out its empty council homes within 28 days, but admitted the time it is taking is “considerably higher”.

A report published by the authority said it was taking on average 60.9 days to re-let out the council homes.

Due to the delays the city council said it is looking at how it can shorten the time it is taking.

The report said: “We are going to be commencing a void improvement project to look at the end to end process, which will result in our void times being improved over the coming months.”

Last month the neighbouring authority South Cambridgeshire District Council said it was taking it on average 30 to 33 days to re-let out council homes.

It said this fell short of its “ambitious” target to re-let empty council homes within 17 days and it was therefore looking at where it can improve.
