A Christmas tree that was described by Wisbech Town Council in Cambridgeshire as “half dead or dying” has been replaced.

The council first raised concerns on Facebook, stating the tree was an “absolute disgrace.”

The original 35ft tree, delivered on Wednesday, was replaced by a smaller and healthier 28ft tree after the supplier provided a new specimen.

Terry Jordan, clerk of Wisbech Town Council, explained that the supplier suggested recent hot weather had affected the larger trees, making it more difficult for them to absorb nutrients and water.

“On inspection, we realised there were some areas where there appeared to be some dead branches and gaps in the tree,” Mr Jordan said.

He added that the issue was resolved after contacting the supplier, and that the town is now happy with the replacement.

In 2023, another nearby Cambridgeshire town, March, also attracted attention for its Christmas tree, which was noted for its unusual tilt and remained in place for an extended period after the festive season.
