Fenland tennis club hopes Olympics can help change image of tennis
Paris 2024 kicks off in under a week's time
A Cambridgeshire tennis club hopes this summer's Olympics will help change the image of the sport and welcome more people to try it out.
It's just five days until the opening ceremony in Paris, where Great Britain will look to finish in the top five spots of the medal table.
Kathryn Booth is the secretary at Chatteris Tennis Club - she hopes the event will make a difference.
"A lot of children tend to be more football-orientated because football's out there more than tennis, and tennis traditionally is seen as elitist, but we want to break that down so that we get more people thinking 'it's for everyone'," she said.
"You're always going to have that (elitist culture) from the past, but I think gradually, that will get broken down and if we can get publicity that tennis is for everyone, that might help.
"There could be an influence"
UK Sport has invested £315 million of Government and National Lottery funds across 53 Olympic and Paralympic sports ahead of the Paris Games.
And as well as seeing other British players take to the court, Kathryn hopes this will have an impact on amateur players.
"Maybe other players will be playing in the Olympics who could have the same sort of influence, so we'll have to wait and see what happens, but I think there could well be an influence on the club or clubs in general," she said.
"I'm hoping there'll be more children who get involved (from the Olympics) and membership in general, people coming to try tennis but maybe there'll be a boost because of the Olympics."
