Cambridgeshire parents show cause for concern over Prime Energy drink
A probe into the product has been launched due to its high caffeine levels
Many youngsters have become glued to the Prime energy drink but for some in Cambridgeshire, it's an item not worth buying.
The drink contains 200mg of caffeine per can, which is around twice its rival energy drink Red Bull and six times more than a can of Coca Cola.
Probes to investigate Prime, made famous by YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul, for the product have been made in the US amid claims it's directly targeted towards children.
But the company say the energy drink is clearly labelled as not being recommended for under 18s.
Baskaran Sivakumar runs a convenience store in March and is not selling Prime Energy:
“I know the prices; some people are saying it’s selling for £10 or £15,” he said.
“My local Sainsbury’s is selling for £2.50, and they have the same problem with children where too many are grabbing the Prime drinks.
“I don’t know what’s so special about this drink which all the children are after.
“Children know I’m not selling so they don’t come here and ask if I’m selling them.”
Prime Energy "puts children on wrong side of life"
Concerns have also been raised amongst schools in the UK when a school in Wales reported one pupil suffered “a cardiac episode” after drinking Prime Energy in May.
And parents at a March primary school are not impressed by the product.
One said the drink “puts them on the wrong side of life”, while another feels children drinking Prime Energy will “have more energy and not be as concentrated for school work”.
A parent thinks the item is “definitely no good for children or adults”, and calls to regulators were made by another parent to “make sure they put an age restriction” on the drink.
