Cambridgeshire non-league club eyes success thanks to England Euro 2024 final
The club has been screening all of England's games at the tournament
Football fans across Cambridgeshire will be glued to the screen tonight when England look to create Euros history.
The Three Lions face Spain in the final in Germany as Gareth Southgate’s men look to win the tournament for the first time.
Soham Town Rangers FC have been screening all of England's Euro 2024 games this summer and as the team's progressed, so has the number of people attending.
Hannah Firek is from the club:
"This match is so important because if England win, people will stay and celebrate with us rather than go home straight away after the match, which will benefit us as a club and allow us to support our community more in the long run," she said.
"England have been addictive to watch, even if it's with your head in your hands.
"To watch their progress unfold on a big screen is so much more intense, and to share that with your community is such an incredible feeling."
Progress
Soham Town Rangers first started hosting live screenings of the Euros on its Julius Martin Lane pitch in 2021 after the Covid pandemic.
This summer, it's seen numbers of people attending increase over the course of the tournament.
When England beat the Netherlands in Wednesday's semi-final, more than 560 people turned out at Soham to watch the game and Hannah hopes hundreds more will come along for the final.
"We're hoping to hit the 750-mark and hire more security to support us in managing this safely," she added.
"Any profit we make goes back into the club to improve it for our community, from social club events to adults and grassroots football; we want to provide for and support our community who are doing the same for us by coming along to watch England play.
"Community is the foundation of success; without our community, our events wouldn't be a success, meaning we couldn't in return support them in ways that we plan to."
