Cambridgeshire town makes voice heard ahead of Sir Keir Starmer speech
The Labour leader is due to speak at a party conference later
Bringing prices down and cutting hospital waiting times are some of the issues people in Cambridgeshire hope the man bidding to become Britain's next Prime Minister can solve.
Sir Keir Starmer is due to speak at the Labour party conference in Liverpool later, which could be his last speech in front of party members ahead of the next general election.
In his speech Sir Keir will acknowledge that some voters still need to be convinced to back his party at the general election expected next year.
The Labour leader will promise a "decade of national renewal", suggesting his party will be in power until the mid-2030s.
These missions, according to Labour, are:
- Ensuring growth for "higher living standards"
- Making the country a "clean energy superpower"
- Improving the NHS system
- Making streets safer and "stronger policing"
- Reforming childcare and education
"He's going to have a fight on his hands"
People in Cambridgeshire have had their say on what they'd like Sir Keir to do for the county if he did become Prime Minister:
"Make it a better Cambridgeshire, but I think he's going to have a fight on his hands," one woman said.
"I'd like him to invest more money into the hospitals," said one man.
"As a disabled person, I don't feel there are enough services for me; the waiting times are extremely long.
"I'm waiting for a simple operation and it's been nearly 18 months."
Sir Keir took over the Labour leadership from Jeremy Corbyn following the 2019 general election.
