This armed forces week, Cambridgeshire is given the chance to show its support for those who make up and served in the forces.
It can also act as an opportunity to get youngsters involved in serving their country in different ways.
The city of Ely is one of those places where army and air cadets will be lining the streets, with a strong turnout expected to recognise the work of those in the armed forces.
“I’m hoping that we’ll have a good footfall,” David Martin, chairman of Ely’s Royal British Legion branch, said.
“My staff will be here on the Royal British Legion stall.
“The youth can ask veterans on the ground questions about their careers, what they enjoyed, what they didn’t like and maybe push some of our youth community that way.”
"This event is very important to us and our city"
In the build-up to Armed Forces Day this Saturday, Ely has aimed to honour the work of different armed forces personnel and the achievements they have made.
And the days leading into the annual event is hoped to bring unity to local communities in the county.
“The main target is to bring people together,” Anna Bennett, tourism and town centre manager at Visit Ely, said.
“Our community events are about celebrating something and this one’s very important to us and our city.
“In terms of previous events, Apple Day is coming up in October.
“We’d have started off very small and we’re now in our 23rd year this autumn, so hopefully we’ll be doing the same to represent Armed Forces Day in Ely for years to come.”
