A burglar who stole ham and a pair of wireless headphones from a Cambridgeshire home has been sentenced.

Stephen Gibbs, 30, broke into the property in Isleham, near Ely, overnight 19-20 June last year.

When the victim returned home at 6.30am they found a window had been damaged, cupboards opened and items strewn on the floor.

Officers attended the scene and found Gibbs’s fingerprints on the damaged window.

He was arrested and admitted the burglary.

On Friday (13 June) at Cambridge Crown Court, Gibbs, of no known address, was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for two years. He was also ordered to complete 20 days of rehabilitation activity and pay the victim £300 compensation.

PC Samantha Chapman said: “Gibbs clearly thought nothing of breaking into someone’s home and stealing from them. I’m pleased he was apprehended and has now appeared in court.

“Burglary can have a significant psychological, as well as financial, impact on victims. We’re working hard to tackle it and bring perpetrators to justice.”
