Cambridgeshire businesses could see growth after Autumn Statement
There are reports tax cuts could be made in the Chancellor's speech
A business owner in Cambridgeshire hopes this week's Autumn Statement will help encourage more people to come and spend in more shops.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's claimed the economy is ready to move to its "next phase" despite reports of tax cuts being made by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt in Wednesday's speech.
Mr Hunt has also not ruled out cuts on taxes such as inheritance tax as well as personal taxation.
Loveland Tawiah runs PC OK in Chatteris:
"I think the Chancellor should make it easier for companies to invest and reduce taxes on businesses so that it will help the economy," he said.
"Where we are, we need help from the government to promote (coming to) the high street and other bits and pieces to bring a lot more footfall here to help us.
"At the moment, people don't have a lot of money to spend so perhaps doing something like reducing people's taxes for them to have money in their pocket to spend in the local economy would help us."
There have been rumours that the Chancellor could make tax cuts for businesses with the aim of helping them grow as part of his Autumn Statement in Parliament.
Some businesses in Fenland have already secured a total of more than £192,000 to help create new jobs and safeguard existing ones thanks to the district's councils economic growth arm Fenland for Business.
The funding, announced earlier this month, came following a round of bids to the UK Shared Prosperity Investment in Business Fund.
The council, in partnership with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, successfully secured cash from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Shared Prosperity Fund to support businesses to innovate and grow.
