A business group in Cambridgeshire hopes firms here can continue to feel a boost thanks to England's progress in the Euros.

The Three Lions take on Switzerland in the quarter-finals in Germany later today.

It's hoped the tournament will bring increased footfall into hospitality such as pubs, as well as more money into high streets.

Euros will 'hopefully bring in footfall into hospitality'

Charlotte Horobin's the chief executive officer at the Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce:

"The longer the Euros continue, that will hopefully continue to bring in that footfall into the hospitality sector, but also as we see with many sporting achievements, hopefully we see a boost to our leisure activities," she said.

"You're able to bring that consistent footfall from one event (this summer) hopefully marketing through to activities leading onto another event and making sure businesses are capitalising on these types of activities."

Some businesses may also still be recovering from the effects of the Covid pandemic, which Ms Horobin hopes this summer can help towards.

She added: "I think all sectors are evolving quickly; I don't think there is a new normal and hospitality and retail have still faced those headwinds after the pandemic, and will continue to respond (to them)," she added.
