Cambridge University will build its own solar farm in South Cambridgeshire to provide 26% of its energy needs.

The new solar farm is due to be built on farmland off Barton Road.

It's expected to offer 30,457 megawatt hours per annum.

A representative of the university told councillors at a South Cambridgeshire District Council planning committee that climate change was one on the "most pressing problems".

The farm is planned to be in place for 40 years, after which the land would be returned to agricultural use.
