Thief who stole £40k worth of rare coins from Cambridge business jailed
The 35-year-old used a ladder to get to the first floor, where he smashed a window to break in.
A man who stole rare coins worth thousands of pounds from a Cambridge business has been jailed.
Joseph Ross, 35, went to Cambridge Coins in Swan Road at about 3.10am on 20 February with another man.
He used a ladder to get to the first floor, where he smashed a window to break in.
After searching the building Ross threw a rucksack containing coins worth £40,000 to his accomplice outside, before both men made their getaway.
When he was arrested the following day at a property in Darwin Court, Cambridge, officers found some of the coins and casing used to display them.
In the weeks leading up to the burglary Ross stole items including steaks, salmon and chocolates worth hundreds of pounds from supermarkets in Cambridge.
Ross, of Hawkins Road, Cambridge, admitted burglary and seven counts of theft.
On Thursday (17 April) at Peterborough Crown Court he was jailed for 30 months.
PC Andy Smith said: “Ross showed a complete lack of regard for others and the law as he stole from shops and committed this high value burglary.
“The burglary was devastating for the business owner and has had a long-lasting impact on them.
“I’m pleased Ross was apprehended and has now been jailed for his actions.”
