Cambridge Strawberry Fair celebrates 50th anniversary
It's taking place at Midsummer Common today
Cambridge's Strawberry Fair is taking place today!
The event, located at Midsummer Common, is celebrating its 50th anniversary and will offer free entry and entertainment.
It could attract up to 40,000 visitors and is recognized as the UK’s largest and longest-running free festival of its kind.
The festivities will kick off with a parade through Cambridge starting at 11am, featuring elaborate costumes, stilt walkers, and street performers.
The parade will culminate at Midsummer Common at noon, marking the official opening of the fair.
Multiple stages, including the newly introduced Calm stage, will host diverse musical performances throughout the day.
In addition to music, Scarecrow Corner will feature community and social awareness stalls, while the Strawberry Fair Café will offer refreshments. The Strawberry Arts Area will showcase local artists, and the Cambridge Community Circus will provide workshops and aerial performances.
A dedicated Kids Park will be open from 12 pm to 6 pm, offering a variety of free activities in an alcohol-free environment.
Chair of the Strawberry Fair Committee, Liz Nathan says it best when she says, “We’re really looking forward to Saturday when we’ll be putting on a fun and inclusive FREE day out for all the family, at a place where music, art, and people celebrate our passion together, the ultimate expression of true community in Cambridge and to be able to still do that 50 years later is just incredible."
"Strawberry Fair 2024 will be one to remember and something that Cambridge can rightly be proud about! Please come down and see us. Donate if you can, volunteer if you can, and immerse yourself in what we do, because The Fair lives on when it's a part of all of us!”
