Final preparations are underway in Cambridge as thousands of racers descend on the city for its annual half marathon.

This is the thirteenth edition of the race, which sees runners, sprinters and fundraisers come together to test their physical endurance.

Kicking off in 2012, the endurance test has attracted runner from across the region and beyond, bringing a vital boost to the local economy.

The route for the race will take those running the 13 miles on a whistle-stop tour of some of Cambridge's most well-known landmarks including King's College and the Fitzwilliam Museum, to name just a few.

As well as this, the final race to the finish line with a thrilling last-minute sprint through both Midsummer Common and Jesus Green, where the marathon kicks off.

Runners taking part in the event are doing so for a multitude of reasons from proving physical strength to raising money for good causes.

Previous runner Sarah, who raised funds for Cancer Research UK said: "I was used to being very active, and suddenly I had no energy after my diagnosis, which for me was the hardest part.

"But I kept my training up even after diagnosis and managed to run a full half marathon distance the day before my cancer surgery. I’m passionate about keeping active as a way of countering the side effects of treatment.

"I’m convinced it was keeping moving which helped me get over the fatigue I suffered during radiotherapy and running remains very important to me," Sarah finished.

Coverage of the event will be given live for those who are not lucky enough to see the marathon themselves, with the full results being posted to the marathon's official website.
