A prolific burglar who walked into a Cambridge home and stole trainers and a handbag has been jailed.

Jason Armstrong was caught on CCTV carrying the stolen items after burgling the home in York Street in the early hours of 19 November last year (2022).

The victim woke to find her front door open and items missing. Later in the day, a member of the public contacted her after finding her handbag discarded in a bush near the Beehive Centre.

Detectives were then able to use CCTV from the area to identify 46-year-old Armstrong as the suspect.

At Huntingdon Crown Court on Thursday (18/5), Armstrong, of Nuns Way, Cambridge, was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison after pleading guilty to burglary.

PC Ryan Parker, who investigated, said: “Armstrong is known as a prolific and opportunist thief and burglar. The city will be safer with him behind bars.

“This case does serve as a reminder to residents to keep their doors locked, especially when they are out of the house, in the garden or asleep.”
