Waste workers in Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire are to start working four day weeks in September.

It's part of a new trial to increase recruitment and reduce sickness levels in the "physically demanding" job.

Also being introduced is a new route to take into account new housing has been built across two council areas.

Councillor Tim Brick said he had some concerns about both the four day week and new route being implemented at the same time, and that on previous occasions bins have been missed.

Earlier this week, Minister for Local Government Lee Rowley criticised the scheme, calling for the trial to be stopped.

He raised concerns over whether the four-day week was "value for money".

The committee members unanimously agreed to support the trial after the district council approved the trial back in May.
