Over 800,000 car journeys replaced by e-scooters and e-bikes in Cambridge since 2020
The partnership with Voi Technology has reduced CO2 emissions and air pollution in the city.
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority has announced that over 800,000 car journeys that would have been taken across Cambridge were replaced by e-bikes and e-scooters.
Cambridge partnered up with e-bike specialists Voi Technology in October 2020, providing alternative "green" transport to travel round the city.
Since then, the initiative has reduced CO2 emissions and air pollution across the area.
As part of the Combined Authority's Corporate Strategy 2023-25, they are aiming to improve connectivity and "to make our region an ever-better place to live, work, learn, and visit."
Voi Technology withdrew their bikes from Peterborough in March this year due to "persistent acts of criminality, including arson and vandalism."
The Mayor of the Combined Authority, Dr Nik Johnson, writes on their website, “By delivering on our promise of a well-connected region in which a diverse, modern, and vibrant economy is enabled and sustained by a highly-skilled workforce, we will ensure that our increasingly resilient communities are integral to the types of good growth needed to secure Cambridgeshire and Peterborough’s fairest, healthiest, most prosperous future.
"And, in taking such “action across the whole of society” as Marmot recommends, we can pioneer a fuller consideration of socio-economic outcomes, public health included, in our decision-making processes.”
The Chief Executive of the scheme, Rob Bridge, also writes, "The vision set out is an ambitious one, it demonstrates how we will remain outward-looking, focus on bringing good jobs to our region, and ensure our people have the skills and connectivity - physical and digital - to take up those opportunities, as well as decent public transport in thriving communities.
"We will embrace further devolution opportunities for the region, ensuring there is a clear collaborative vision that leads to further inward investment, celebrating the great places, potential and innovation that exists."
