A 25-year-old man has been charged in connection with a series of bin fires in Trumpington. Callum Campbell, of St Matthews Gardens, Cambridge, is accused of four counts of arson relating to fires that took place on 17 and 26 February.

He appeared at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on 1 March and was released on conditional court bail. His next hearing is scheduled to take place at Cambridge Crown Court on 31 March.

Fire crews were called to at least five fires in Trumpington over two weeks, which were believed to be deliberate. The most recent incidents occurred in the early hours of 26 February at bin stores in Cornwell Road and Addenbrookes Road. Both locations have flats above them, and in Addenbrookes Road, heat from the fire caused a window to crack and smoke to enter a property. The occupant was unharmed.

Following an investigation, officers linked these incidents to other bin fires in the area, including:

A bin fire in Addenbrookes Road on 17 February

Multiple bin fires in Perne Road on 17 February

Three separate bin fires in Perne Road on 20 February

A bin fire in Brookfields on 24 February

A bin fire in Addenbrookes Road on 25 February

Anyone with information about the fires is urged to contact police online or call 101, quoting Operation Tarragona or crime reference 35/13809/25.
