Thousands expected for Battle of Britain air show in Cambridgeshire
Imperial War Museum Duxford are hosting the two-day event
Thousands of visitors are due to descend on Cambridgeshire this weekend to remember the Battle of Britain.
Spitfires, hurricanes and the Red Arrows are expected at Imperial War Museum Duxford to mark 83 years since Britain claimed victory over the German Luftwaffe.
Other attractions including entertainment from the Second World War era and a Battle of Britain memorial flight are due to be taking place.
Adam Kendall is head of commercial services at the museum:
"I think 50 years of doing anything is quite impressive and 50 years of air shows at Duxford is something to celebrate," he said.
"It's something we know resonates with a lot of our visitors and something we think a lot of people feel a connection with.
"An important part of us is trying to give people a sense of what life was like and try to keep memories of the few and all the people who served in conflict going."
Air show won't just show off 'fantastic machines'
The official Battle of Britain Day is September 15, 1940 when the RAF Fighter Command claimed victory over German forces.
Between 33,000 and 34,000 visitors are due to attend IWM Duxford over the weekend, where today will see the museum's flying programme start at 1pm and at 12.30pm tomorrow.
"For us, it's important that something like an air show gives people an opportunity not just to see these fantastic machines," Kendall said.
"There's all manner of different ways the conflict has touched our lives and remembering what some of these people went to, life and death situations, and it's important we remember those."
