A man who attacked his girlfriend in Wisbech is now behind bars.

39-year-old Vaidas Paskevicius's girlfriend called police after an argument, which left her concerned he would kill her.

She was attacked after a row in Wisbech, when she left her phone flashlight on, before Paskevicius, of no fixed address, pushed her onto the bed, punching and kicking her.

He was stopped by other who came in the room, after hearing the woman scream.

Paskevicius was arrested but claimed no wrongdoing, before pleading guilty to assault by beating at Huntingdon Magistrates' Court yesterday.

He's been sentenced to four weeks in prison.

DC Joshua Crown, who investigated, said "domestic abuse is never acceptable" and it is "a force priority and we will continue to work tirelessly to keep victims safe."
