An e-scooter rider has been hospitalised after being hit by a car in Bristol.

Avon and Somerset Police say the woman has been left with serious injuries after being hit on Hartcliffe Way, between Imperial Park and the Hengrove Way roundabout.

It happened just before 7:30pm on Tuesday (18/05).

A man has been arrested in connection with the crash, while the road was closed overnight for investigation.

The police are now appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage of the crash to come forward.

It is the first major incident involving an e-scooter in Bristol, but there have been others elsewhere in the country.

In April a six-year-old boy in Leicester was left with a fractured skull after being hit by a teenager riding an e scooter.

Meanwhile in 2019 TV presenter Emily Hartridge who was 35, was killed while riding an e scooter when she was hit by a lorry in London.
