Water has returned to homes in the Winterbourne after a burst main caused families to be without water on Christmas Day.

The damaged main was first located on the High Street at around 3:30pm.

Bristol Water say homes in the Winterbourne, Watleys End, and Stoke Gifford areas were affected.

They say engineers worked through the night to repair the main, and provided bottled water to those affected at the town's Co Op store.

At 8:48am, Bristol Water then wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the repairs were complete, and water was returning to people's homes.

They added that due to the burst and the need to flush water through to restore water flow to normal, people could expect water to have an initially silver/grey appearance.

Bristol Water say this does not currently present a health concern, but anyone experiencing this is being advised to run water through their cold taps for 30 minutes to clear it.
