Two seriously injured in M5 crash

Two people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a three vehicle crash near Weston super Mare this afternoon.

The road was closed at lunchtime, and fully reopened around two hours later.

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called shortly before 12.30pm this afternoon to reports of a three-vehicle collision on the M5 northbound, near the junction for Weston-super-Mare.

"Officers attended alongside the ambulance and fire services and the road was closed to recover the vehicles.

"Two people were taken to hospital by the ambulance service with injuries believed to be serious, but not life-threatening or life-changing.

"The road was fully opened shortly after 2pm."
