The shortlist has been announced for this year’s spoof Somerset ‘Turnip’ prize - which pokes fun at modern art.

The awards take place at a pub in Wedmore next month on the same night as the world famous Turner prize is announced.

The Turnips were started by a group of friends after Tracey Emin’s unmade bed, from the 90s, was later sold for millions - and Turnip judges say they 'celebrate art with seemingly the least amount of effort'.

“Inflation”

A balloon called ‘inflation’ is among the shortlist, and soo too is ‘sycamore gap’ or two seeds placed apart.

Organiser Trevor Prideaux, who hails from Devon. said: The World Famous “Turnip Prize” is a spoof of the lesser-known Turner Prize and has been running for twenty six years.

He joked: "This year we have received 69 entries, we have ordered a smaller skip!!"

“Sycamore Gap”

The turnips will be unveiled on December 3, at 6pm, at The New Inn, Combe Batch, Wedmore, Somerset.
