Tributes are being paid to a former Bristol City footballer, who has died at the age of 42 after a battle with cancer.

Marvin Brown joined the Bristol City Academy at the age of eight and went on to become the club’s youngest player, aged just 16 years and 71 days in September 1999.

While at the club, Marvin featured for England Under-16s and Under-17s before moving on to Forest Green Rovers in 2004.

He founded Total Pro Soccer, a development centre for young boys in the Bristol area and worked as an Academy coach at Bristol City alongside and beyond his playing career in various roles and played a crucial role in the development of numerous Academy graduates.

He played for a number of teams across the South West including Yeovil Town, Weston-Super-Mare, Cheltenham Town, Salisbury City and Truro City.

Messages are pouring in from clubs, with Yeovil Town saying they're saddened to learn of his passing and their thoughts are with his family and friends.

Brown suffered from cholangiocarcinoma, a cancer of the bile duct. He had been diagnosed with a number of different medical conditions previously, including ulcerative colitis, rare liver disease sclerosing cholangitis, and was treated for colon cancer in 2022.

Following his terminal diagnosis, a fundraising page was set up for his family as he was not eligible for life insurance. That has now raised more than £65,000.

A charity match will take at Twerton Park, home of Bath City on November 9th to raise even more money where The Marvin Brown XI will take on a Bristol City XI.
