A teenage boy has been arrested after reports of a sexual assault in Bristol on Wednesday night (29th May).

Avon and Somerset Police say officers on a routine patrol were approached and told a teenage girl had been sexually assaulted by touching in the Connaught Road area of Knowle, at around 9pm.

The arrested boy later made themselves known to police and has since been released on bail, while enquires continue.

Inspector Chris Starr, of the Filwood Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Enquiries into what happened are ongoing, but we can confirm one person has been arrested.

"That individual has since been released on conditional bail, preventing him returning to Connaught Road."

Officers will now be carrying out more patrols in the area in an attempt to alleviate people's concerns. The police add they are "aware" that there were social media posts about what allegedly happened, shared online overnight.

“We are aware there have been some social media posts about what happened last night, so we hope this update helps reassure people we are investigating, an arrest has been made and show how seriously we are taking this incident," Inspector Starr added.

“We would though please ask people avoid posting material or speculation online that could have a detrimental impact while a live police investigation is in progress.”

Anyone who witnessed what happened or has any information is asked to contact the police and quote the reference number 5224138207.
